Mould Tool Design & Manufacture

Delivering excellence from concept to production, we partner with clients to bring innovative ideas to life with unparalleled precision and efficiency.

Tool & Gauge designs and builds injection mould tools in-house at our toolroom in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Ireland. Design, DFM, mould flow analysis, prototype tools and production tooling all happen under one roof, so the engineers who design your mould are the toolmakers who build it.

Established in 1956, we build moulds for MedTech and industrial manufacturers wherever they are based. Tools can be shipped to production sites in the UK, Europe, the US and further afield.

Precision Design & Manufacturing Solution

Our vastly experienced design team works in close partnership with clients, offering expert advice to streamline design projects. We prioritize process optimization, tolerance levels, and preempting potential challenges to save you time and money. Innovation and creative design are at the very core of our DNA, remaining a key strength in every project we undertake.

Optimizing for Manufacture: DFM & Mould Flow

Part Analysis & DFM
Thorough analysis of product parts for Design for Manufacture (DFM), optimizing for production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Mould Flow Analysis
Utilizing advanced Mould Flow Analysis / Design Development to predict material behavior and ensure optimal mould design.

These critical steps ensure that your product is not only innovative in design but also highly efficient and cost-effective to produce, minimizing potential manufacturing hurdles.

Precision Injection Mould Design

We excel in Injection Mould Design, creating robust and precise moulds crucial for high-quality plastic part production. Each design undergoes a rigorous Design Review prior to cutting steel, ensuring every detail is perfect before fabrication begins. This meticulous approach prevents costly errors and significantly reduces lead times, guaranteeing a smooth transition to manufacturing.

Advanced Prototyping & Quality Assurance

Gauge & Fixture Design
Developing custom gauges and fixtures for precise measurement and assembly, ensuring consistent product quality.

Rapid 3D Printing
Leveraging advanced 3D Printingfor rapid prototyping, allowing for quick design iterations and validation.

Comprehensive Prototyping
Full-scale Prototyping service to test functionality, fit, and form before mass production.

Common Questions About Mould Tool Design

What engineers and buyers usually ask before starting a new mould with our design team.

What Does Mould Tool Design Involve?

It starts with a detailed DFM process on your part, followed by mould flow analysis to predict how the material will fill, pack and cool. The mould design is then reviewed with you before any steel is cut.

Do You Design and Build Moulds In-House?

Yes. Mould design and toolmaking are both done in our Tubbercurry toolroom, alongside our moulding, metrology and validation teams.

Which MedTech Areas Do You Have Experience In?

We build tools for medical device manufacturers across vascular intervention, endovascular, structural heart, electrophysiology, drug delivery, surgical, endoscopic, and respiratory and nebuliser devices.

What Types of Mould Do You Build?

Prototype, pilot and production moulds up to SPI Class 101, including multi-cavity tools of up to 64 cavities, overmoulding and 2K tooling, as well as replacement and duplicate moulds.

Can You Make Tools for Medical Devices?

Yes. We build moulds for MedTech components and can mould, validate and assemble them in our ISO 13485 certified facility, so tooling and production stay with one partner.

What Is an SPI Class 101 Mould?

It is the highest class of production mould, built for very high cycle counts. We build SPI Class 101 production tooling as well as prototype tools.

Do You Offer Prototype Tools?

Yes. Prototype tools and 3D printed parts let you test a design before committing to full production tooling.

Do You Build Moulds for International Customers?

Yes. Our mould design and toolmaking service is set up for international customers. Tools are designed and built in Tubbercurry, then shipped to production sites in the UK, mainland Europe, the US and further afield.
